The driver will provide written instructions and the Lyft code to each passenger. The code will be valid on that day until 12:00 midnight. If the passenger does not wish to take a Lyft ride, the driver will call Campus Safety to request a ride be provided. Campus Safety asks that the driver provide the passenger’s name and location so they can accurately dispatch the security guard or office.

  • To encourage feedback, passengers will be able to access a new feedback form/survey via a QR code displayed at all of our bus shelters, bus stops and bus service vehicles. We are still in the process of ordering the graphics but will install them as soon as they become available.

Safety

General

The safety of our campuses is a priority for the university and the LUPD. Over the past several years, the LUPD has had very little to no incidents of vandalism and theft on Mountaintop. No violent crimes have occured on this campus. There are no known dangerous animal reports, either. However, please be cautious of possible deer on roadways when driving to and from Mountaintop.

Lighting

Lehigh Facilitiies has replaced all street lights from 75 watt metal halide to 100 watt LED equivalent. Facilities also replaced almost all exterior lights on all buildings on Mountaintop with LED - increasing light output similar to street lights while adding another 8-10 new exterior fixtures at Bldg C.

Site lights are currently being added on grass walkways between Iacocca, C and B. This is 50% upgraded and will be completed by spring '23.

Cameras

LUPD has over 70 cameras on the Mountaintop campus, including those that cover the bus stops.

HawkWatch Personal Safety App

The HawkWatch personal safety app is the official mobile app from Lehigh University and is offered for free to all members of the campus community. There is no obligation to download this app. The HawkWatch app is custom-designed for Lehigh University and includes a number of options that can help in an emergency situation. It also puts the user in direct contact with LUPD dispatchers. It is the equivalent of a mobile blue light phone in the palm of the user’s hand. In addition, the app provides quick and easy access to useful information such as directions in emergency situations, and emergency contacts and support resources. It can also serve as a Lehigh bus tracker, provide links for reporting a tip, and offer users a quick and easy way to request safety programs.

If you do not have a smartphone, you can still receive text messages from HawkWatch. Text LEHIGH to 237233 to subscribe to alerts. Text STOP to cancel. Standard message and data rates may apply.

Improvements:

You shared feedback, we listened! Learn about the improved services being made to the Mountaintop campus resources. What We've Heard and What We're Doing...

We Heard: It's sometimes unclear which direction the buses are heading.

What we're doing: GoLehighTransit has programmed the signs on all buses so that it’s clear, and immediately visible to a waiting rider, whether their bus is headed to Saucon Village or to the Asa Packer Campus. This will allow riders to better manage their commute time.

We heard: There isn't enough student parking.

What we're doing: In the spring of 2022, we quickly took steps to add an additional 9 spaces where students could park. We've continued evaluating spaces this summer and have now converted a total of 34 current short term spaces for students to use if they have any on campus residential permit, or a commuter permit with evening and weekend privileges. There are also 41 spaces at Iacocca Hall.

After 4 pm, students with any on campus residential permit, or a commuter permit with evening and weekend privileges, may park in any of the faculty/staff spaces at Mountaintop. We will be evaluating additional opportunites to add more parking for students in the fall.

Update: This fall (2022), we increased the availability of student short term parking to 41 parking spaces next to Building C and 86 spaces behind Iacocca Hall by creating 4 hour short term spaces that allow for any permit holder (except the Goodman Commuter Only permits) to park in them.

We heard: The directional signage isn't clear - especially for a new student.

What we're doing: The last thing we want is anyone to be confused and stressed on their first day because they don't know where they should park. We've analyzed the entry points into Mountaintop campus and the parking lots themselves and have an updated signage plan in progress. The new signage will clearly direct students, as well as faculty/staff and visitors, to the correct parking lots. Our new and improved signage will also reduce redundant and vague messaging. Once implemented, we welcome any and all feedback so that we may continue making improvements!

We heard: The bus tracking app is not populating arrival times for all the stops.

What we're doing: During the focus groups, we became aware of a glitch in the bus tracking software. The app was populating arrival times for some of the stops, but not for all the stops. We immediately contacted our software vendor and have worked with them to correct this glitch. We're pleased to report that all of the bus stops are now populating arrival times.

Fall 2023 Update: We have replaced our bus tracking software. Transportation and Parking Services is pleased to announce our new app for bus tracking - the GoLehigh Transit app! This change is, in part, due to the feedback we received last year regarding the previous tracking app.

Available at: Google Play or Apple App Store

Benefits:

  • More accurate bus tracking - including estimated times of arrival.
  • Allows for notifications, giving you the most up to date bus announcements.
  • In the app settings you can select the routes and stops you need and save them as your favorites.

To track buses from your web browser, please visit: bus.lehigh.edu

We heard: Cell/mobile data reception is spotty and impacts use of the apps.

What we're doing: University Business Services and Transportation have begun a conversation with LTS about cell phone connectivity and the implications that poor connectivity can have on student safety and software reliability. LTS has an investigation in the works and will review the solutions. Recently, wireless APs were added to the 5 stops that have Code Blue Emergency Phone Towers - providing students near those towers with WiFi access.

We heard: Students, especially new ones, just aren't sure where to find a lot of information about Mountaintop.

What we're doing: This comment was the inspiration for our Mountaintop Field Guide - a "how to" guide for taking classes and studying at Mountaintop. Over the summer and fall semester, we will be adding helpful Mountaintop tips and info to this page regularly.

We heard: The buses to and from Mountaintop don't come frequently enough.

What we're doing: This spring semester (2023), Transportation and Parking Services added new bus routes to better serve Mountaintop, Goodman, and Saucon Village. Explore the new bus routes here or track your bus live at bus.lehigh.edu. These new routes are in the pilot phase as we make adjustments to best meet the needs of our riders. Please provide feedback HERE to help us continue to assess and improve our bus services.

We heard: There is a need for more dining options.

What we're doing:

Iacocca Cafe (Iacocca Hall):
Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 3 pm
Friday: 8 am - 2 pm
Offers a new, expanded menu with made-to-order sandwiches, salads, smoothies and now proudly serves Starbucks Coffee! We've also introduced hot daily menu features (Baked Manicotti Mondays, Taco Salad Tuesdays), a soup of the day and a daily grilled cheese and soup combo.
