In Fall 2021, the Office of Sustainability in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics administered a Lehigh Commuter Survey to all current students, faculty, and staff.  The Commuter Survey provides key insights into commuting habits, parking zone preferences, as well as views on incentives to change behavior.  Some of the key findings include:

  • 89% (378 respondents) said they drive a standard (not electric) vehicle to campus while 11% (~50 respondents) said they drive a hybrid electric or all-electric vehicle to campus
  • Most faculty and staff respondents would like to see electric vehicle charging stations added to the garages at Alumni, Farrington, and Zoellner
  • When asked if there are any incentives that would encourage you to change your current transportation mode to a more sustainable mode, some of the top answers included: more frequent or faster public transport options for my location and more available buses en route
  • If there was an optional payment or payroll deduction program to offset some of the greenhouse emissions generated when commuting to and from campus , 71% of respondents said they would definitely enroll or maybe enroll.
